When my client, Helen, contacted me to find and source her a style of vintage gin cabinet for her specific space to be custom painted, I knew the task would not be easy, but would prove rewarding! Finding the cabinet proved a little easier than I could have hoped for and after a few photographs and measurements to Helen, she quickly saw through its current state and fell in love with what it could be transformed into. As I work with primarily Farrow and Ball and Little Greene Paint Co Eggshell, Helen chose Farrow and Ball's rich and dramatic 'Brinjal' for the colour.
The cabinet was a little ugly duckling to begin with and needed a bit of remedial work, but after stripping and sanding it down to the bare wood inside and out (Helen wanted all the wood to be painted), and priming the cabinet with Farrow and Ball 'Mid and Warm Tones' Primer, it was soon looking a rather different shade of pink! Around six coats of 'Brinjal' later, and a few days left for the paint to cure, the cabinet was ready for the back and base to be lined inside with velvet. I chose a sumptuous contrasting grey velvet to complement the deep Brinjal tones beautifully, and added a gold tassel and the cabinet was complete.
I'm sure you will agree with me the cabinet has been given a completely new lease of life and on delivering it to Helen she is delighted with it! If you have a similar piece you would like to give a makeover to, or if you would like me to source a cabinet to work on please get in touch!
