Antique Painted Blueish Black Carved Writing Bureau / Writing Desk / Secretaire;
A beautiful antique lockable hand made solid oak bureau / writing desk, probably dating to early 1900's. It sits on carved legs with two drawers and internally has storage compartments along with a further small drawer. There are brass desk supports which open automatically to support the desk when the slope is opened and I have fitted a brand new replacement antiqued leather writing pad. This desk is well proportioned and is in good order with handles which I have cleaned and polished by hand (not painted over or replaced!) and the lock and key for the writing slope is working. It has been carefully sanded and restored and has been professionally painted in Farrow & Ball's dramatic blueish black 'Railings' Modern Eggshell. With its bluer undertones, Railings is a softer alternative to black and on this piece looks stunning. This piece would be a fabulous addition to a home office, hallway, dining room, landing or indeed any contemporary room.
Condition:
This piece is solid and sturdy and is in good condition for its old age. There is no major damage to note apart from the minor nicks, dents and previous repairs which are to be expected with vintage and antique pieces and adds to their character. The antiqued leather writing pad is brand new, having been replaced by myself. There is some slight internal damage to the pigeon holes - please contact me for more detailed photos if required. The drawers are a little stiff to open and close, as is the writing slope, however I have waxed the runners and this is perfectly usual for a desk of this age. There are some signs of previous repairs to the slope, beading and one of the legs, however I feel this forms part of the character of this very old girl and is of no detriment in terms of use or aesthetics. Please contact me for detailed photos if required. There are also some marks and stains inside the drawers - again to be expected with a piece of this age.
I don't just slap on a coat of chalk or mineral paint on my pieces and call them upcycled - each of my pieces undergoes a lengthy process of restoration and preparation before being painstakingly stripped, cleaned, restored, woodworm treated if there is any sign of historic woodworm, primed and undercoated before painting a minimum of five coats of genuine Farrow and Ball eggshell to ensure a high quality finish.

Vintage and antique furniture rarely dismantle for delivery and it is the responsibility of the customer to check the dimensions against their access points in advance of purchase. In the event that the buyer has measured incorrectly and a failed delivery occurs the full cost of third party courier charge will be paid by the customer along with the following charges:

Delivery handling fee (for packaging) £15
Damages to item if not returned in the same condition
For upholstered items it is the customers responsibility to request fabric samples.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
- Custom or personalised orders
- Perishable products (like food or flowers)
- Digital downloads
- Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Conditions of return
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs and arranging courier. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.

My third party courier delivers furniture throughout Mainland England & Wales for a flat fee of £59.
Delivery to Mainland Scotland (excluding Highlands) is charged at a flat fee of £89.
For deliveries to the Scottish Highlands, and other remote areas, please contact me for a quote.
All deliveries are subject to a handling fee of £15
