Restored Mid Century Teak Extending Dining Table by Greaves & Thomas

A rare model beautiful mid century Danish style dining table with centre flip over extending leaf by Greaves & Thomas. Easily seating four chairs unextended and six with the extension, it features tapered solid teak legs and sides with teak veneered top. The Greaves & Thomas maker's badge can be found underneath the table with the extending leaves.

Greaves & Thomas was a London based company with a history dating back to the early 1900’s. In the early years the company specialised in lounge furniture and upholstery. By the mid 20th century the company was producing a range of high end contemporary furniture – including sideboards, armchairs and even bedroom mirrors.

By the mid 1950’s and 60’s Greaves & Thomas, like many other British companies, hired trained designers to create contemporary furniture. Walter Cornell designed many pieces for the company during this time, his work featured clean lines and a Danish influence. In 1967 Greaves & Thomas was purchased by Schreiber to add quality and prestige to their furniture offering.

Condition:

The table is in good restored vintage condition with some age related marks and scuffs to top and legs of the table. Please contact me should you wish to see additional detail photos. There is some minor sunlight fading to the table top, as to be expected with pieces of this age. The extending leaves look to have barely been used and are in original condition. To extend the table the ends pull apart by pulling a brass lever underneath the table top to reveal the flip over extending section which rotates and folds out easily. The mechanism is in good working order and can be used with ease by one person.
