Handsome Mid Century Painted Double Pedestal Desk / Teacher's Desk by Abbess in Farrow and Ball De Nimes BlueDescription:A handsome mid century industrial style large oak topped double pedestal desk / teacher's desk by the ever popular Abbess with four drawers; one of which is lockable. This stunning desk is well proportioned and houses the original handles which together with the drawers and desktop have been stripped, cleaned and given a light clear satin lacquer to reveal the beautiful grain and patina of the wood. The desk frame has also been carefully sanded, restored and cleaned and has been hand painted externally in Farrow & Ball's elegant 'De Nimes' Estate Eggshell. The colour De Nimes is inspired by the cloth of everyday workwear made in the French city Nîmes and like denim, its blue hue is ultimately fashionable and yet always feels grounded. This piece would be a fabulous addition to a study, hallway, dining room, landing or indeed any contemporary room. The Abbess logo can be found on the original drawer lock.
The desk does not disassemble so please measure all door widths and access points (e.g. stairs, turning points) before purchasing.
Condition:
This piece is in very good condition and there is no major damage to note apart from some veneer damage on the left hand side of the desk and the desktop has been notched which can be seen in the photos. I've restored the oak veneered desktop, drawers and handles to reveal the beautiful patina. There are few minor dents and imperfections and some markings inside the drawers which are to be expected with the age of this vintage piece and really add to its character. The lock is the original Abbess lock and I have fitted it with a replacement Abbess key to fit the lock perfectly as the original was missing.I don't just slap on a coat of chalk paint on my pieces and call them upcycled - each of my pieces undergoes a lengthy process of restoration and preparation before being painstakingly stripped, cleaned, restored, woodworm treated if there is any sign of historic woodworm, primed and undercoated before painting a minimum of 4 coats to ensure a high quality finish.
