Refurbished Mid Century 1950's Oak Pedestal Teacher's Desk by Abbess
A superbly restored handsome mid century industrial style oak veneered pedestal desk / teacher's desk by the ever popular Abbess with three drawers. Dating from February 1958, it was supplied by Matthews & Sons of Liverpool. It comes complete with key and stationery tray and is well proportioned with the original oak handles. All have been carefully stripped of the original brown lacquer and professionally restored with Osmo Polyx Oil to reveal the wonderfully rich colours and patterns of the oak. This piece would be a fabulous addition to a study, hallway, dining room, landing or indeed any contemporary room. The Abbess and Matthews & Sons stamps can be found on front of the desk, on the stationery tray, the top left of the main drawer and on the back of the top right hand drawer.
The desk does not disassemble so please measure all door widths and access points (e.g. stairs, hallways, turning points) before purchasing.
Condition:
This piece is in very good condition with no major damage to note apart from some minor marks and scratches on the desktop which can be seen in the photos. Please contact me if you'd like to see additional detail photos. There are also some age related marks inside the drawers as to be expected with the age of this piece, and the pen tray stationery tray has some minor damage to one or two of the compartment sides. The lock is the original Abbess lock and a new key has been cut to fit the lock. There is some wear and tear and repairs to the drawer runners, however the drawers are opening and closing with ease and the desk itself is solid and sturdy. I do accept returns under certain circumstances, however I do not accept returns if you decide on receipt of your item that the size isn't right or doesn't suit your space, or if the colour isn't as you expected. Cancellations are subject to a cancellation charge of £50 to cover card merchant services and admin fees. If a courier has been booked and paid for the full cost of delivery charge will be paid by the customer (courier charges are 50% subsidised by Yellow Pigeon Bespoke Furniture):

Vintage and antique furniture rarely dismantle for delivery and it is the responsibility of the customer to check the dimensions against their access points in advance of purchase. In the event that the buyer has measured incorrectly and a failed delivery occurs the full cost of third party courier charge will be paid by the customer along with the following charges:

Card merchant service refund and admin fee £50
Delivery handling fee (for packaging) £15
Damages to item if not returned in the same condition
For upholstered items it is the customers responsibility to request fabric samples.

The following items can't be returned or exchanged
Because of the nature of these items, unless they arrive damaged or defective, I can't accept returns for:
- Custom or personalised orders
- Perishable products (like food or flowers)
- Digital downloads
- Intimate items (for health/hygiene reasons)

Conditions of return
Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs and arranging courier. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value.
SHIPPING INFO
My third party courier delivers furniture throughout Mainland England & Wales for a flat fee of £59.
Delivery to Mainland Scotland (excluding Highlands) is charged at a flat fee of £89.
For deliveries to the Scottish Highlands, and other remote areas, please contact me for a quote.
All deliveries are subject to a handling fee of £15
